Modern fitness products and apps like Fitbit and Garmin aim to help users improve their health. However, these systems lack a personal connection and fail to engage in meaningful dialogue with users. They don't recognize when a day of rest might be justified, for example. By incorporating negotiation and human-like behavior into these products, they can become more appealing to users and influence their procrastination habits.
FLIB is an interactive system designed to address this issue. It combines visualization to enhance user awareness of their exercise goals with physical interaction and negotiation with the system. To create a plan, pick three stones representing Time, Motivation, and Physical state. A large stone represents high motivation, while a small stone represents muscle pain. Build a tower starting with the smallest stone, reflecting the most limiting factor for the day indicating how each category influences your plan.
Flib recommends activities based on stone weights and transmits suggestions to your smart wearable. Flib encourages reconsideration by highlighting the larger stone when you pick the smaller one. It can also tip over the tower if you consistently have insufficient exercise, prompting you to make changes. At the end of the day, Flib checks your smart wearable for goal achievement. If successful, the tower remains untouched. If not, Flib tips the tower, confronting you with your unmet goal and procrastination.
